LL - that is what got me thinking - I was shredding old files at work and came across copies of baptism certificates that were used for ID. I thought - hmm - I'm baptized - why no certificate??!! lol
Now I know.
Elsewhere - thanks for that info - they tell each of us when we are baptized that we are now ordained ministers - another lie for the WTS.

wt always said tithes were no longer required, just offerings.
went to a full gospel ch.,,and they preached on both- tithes offerings.

Tithing is still preached here. I've been to two different churches, and both preach on tithing. I've listened to radio programs and watched sermons on TV and heard talks on tithing. So, according to these sources - tithing is still required.

why are so many jws very loyal to the watchotwer?
they do anything that the watchtower tells them to do, and believe anything that the the watchtower tells them to believe.. if the watchtower tells the witnesses to jump, the witnesses will ask "how high?
" if the whatchotwer says a black sheet of paper is really white, the witnesses will convince themselves that the paper really is white.. what accounts for this loyalty?
I don't know! My mother will maintain her loyalty till her dying breath! Before my father died he told her to "stay close to the organization", not stay close to Jehovah etc, but to an organization. I wish she could see things for what they really are, but the ties that bind her are just to strong.

I usually didn't remember anything by the time I walked out the doors. When people would comment on the way home about this point or that I'd be thinking "did they really say that - I don't remember!" lol BB
i believe it was paragraph 17, the one that spoke about the faithful slave and how there are those who wish to be "independent" and that this is wrong.
two comments came, both from elders.
elder 1: so what the paragraph is telling us is that instead of developing an independent spirit we actually want to be developing a spirit of dependece upon god's organization and the spiritual food they provide.
The speaker giving the talk said we should do what the faithful slave tells us no matter how strange it might sound at the time. He then went on to emphasize the importance of obedience to the elders since they represent the faithful slave. And several in the audience were nodding their heads in agreement.
It's comments like this that scare me for my family members. I can see my mother sitting there and nodding her head in agreement, and actually follow any "strange" directions. Sad, sad, sad.

Yes, I am an organ donor, have been for several years. My sister has a liver disease and if she ever needs a transplant, I hope she could get one. I've seen shows where donors families are introduced to the people their loved ones donated organs too and they are so thankful.
If I have to die, and my death could mean life to someone else, that's gotta be some good karma!
I did draw the line at donating my body to science though. I can't live with the thought of me lying naked on a cold steel slab with a bunch of med students examining every inch of me!!!
i have been playing with the idea of trying out different churches lately, just trying to keep an open mind, i notice myself thinking like a jw sometimes, thinking that no other religion is right, well whether there is a "true" religion or not i want to be able to say that at least i didn't give up after being a jw.
so i have been saying to my friends that i want to go to church, we talked about it a bit, but only one of my friends goes more than just christmas, so nothing ever came of it.
well the other day he was over for movies and i mentioned it again( it was saturday night) and he said that his parents are making him go tomorrow if i wanted to go.
lucifer - how did you feel when you walked in the doors for the first time? I had no idea what to expect the first time I walked in a church, and was pretty nervous. But I found everyone very welcoming (they have welcoming committes to make sure everyone is greeted).
